Court-Involved Parenting Evaluations

A Parenting Responsibility Evaluation (PRE) is a court-ordered, objective psychological evaluation intended to assist the Court in determining parenting responsibilities in matters involving parental decision-making and parenting time. A PRE is distinct from therapy, mediation, or advocacy.

Nautilus Pathways, Psychological Services and Consultations, LLC provides Parenting Responsibility Evaluations pursuant to Colorado statute and in accordance with professional standards governing court-involved evaluations.

Scope of the Evaluation

A Parenting Responsibility Evaluation is an evaluative process that may include, as appropriate:

  • Review of court orders, pleadings, and relevant records
  • Individual interviews with parents and children
  • Parent–child observations
  • Collateral interviews with identified professionals or supports
  • Psychological testing or structured measures, when clinically indicated
  • Integration of data and preparation of a written report for the Court

The scope and methods of each evaluation are determined by the referral question, court order, and applicable professional guidelines.

Neutrality and Role Clarity

The evaluator serves as an objective, neutral professional and does not function as a therapist, advocate, or treating provider for any party involved in the evaluation. The purpose of the evaluation is to assist the Court, not to provide treatment or recommendations outside the scope of the referral question.

Consistent with ethical and professional standards, the evaluator does not provide therapy to parties or children involved in an active evaluation.

Professional Standards

Parenting Responsibility Evaluations are conducted in accordance with applicable Colorado statutes and informed by recognized professional guidelines, including those articulated by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and relevant psychological ethics codes.

Appointment and Contact

Parenting Responsibility Evaluations are accepted by court appointment or by stipulation of the parties, subject to availability and conflict-of-interest review.

Professional inquiries regarding court-involved evaluations may be directed via email.

Court-involved evaluation services are distinct from therapeutic services offered by the practice.”
